Friday Fun: Ok Go - Needing/Getting

Since it's Friday it's time to post some fun to, while I am at it! Me and my boyfriend have become addicted to Ok Go during this spring. It all started with their fantastic videos, even though I had heard "Get over it" a long time ago and really loved that too. Thinking closer, that might have been because of the video too..

Here is the latest one so far: Needing/Getting. This features a very strange version of the song, so I will also post you a link to the original further down on the page. And listen to the lyrics. Ok Go's singer/songwriter was breaking up with this wife, and oh, how one can feel that. So sad! And the video itself? Just observe! All the sounds are made by the things around the car, I thought there was just some at first, but oh noo!

This song has gotten me through a lot the last weeks... It makes you want to suck it up and get out there again.

Since MTV these days are more busy with everything in a teenagers life that has nothing to do with music, than actually playing music videos. Since VH1 is not available in a big scale, and maybe you want something really tailored to your taste? Well, I have the answer. Get a last.fm account. let it record what you are listening to. Go to Tim Bormans page. Log in with your last.fm account. And boom, it makes your own music tv channel from videos on YouTube that match the music you have listened to a lot on last.fm. Very easy to get addicted. Before we knew it, one and a half hour had passed... :)

The sound levels change a little of course, so you have to adjust that as you go along, and you sometimes get videos with just a still picture or lyrics, but if you don't want it, you can just skip to the next one. Plus, you get all kinds of delightful live clips!! Enjoy!And thanks, Tim.

I have been planing to write a blog post about this video a long time now, and finally I have time. There is not that much to say, the lyrics is brilliant and I love the way the video play up to it and at the same time makes it's own story. And of course the fact that it's on a tv. Somehow there is so much emotion of both sadness and happiness in both this video and this song. It thrills me and brings me to tears of emotion.

I am almost out of words! It's been a long time since I have laughed so much that I cried in the beginning of a music video and then cried because it was beautiful overwhelming beauty at the end of it (around 2.27). Great music videos - R.E.M - We All Go Back To Where We Belong

Sometimes watching a human being can just simply be the most beautiful in life and especially if they are filmed in a great way and to emotional and beautiful music. This really made me feel alive, thankful for the great world and the people in it and filled we with a deep feeling of joy, crying like a bride on her wedding day. Both videos are equally beautiful in different ways. Enjoy! How I will miss you R.E.M.

Great music video and great song: Bee Gees - Stayin' alive

This song and video I have such a love and hate relationship with. The teeth, the pants, the whining, the strange dance moves, makes me a little physically sick. But at the same time it is totally hilarious. A friend of mine pointed out the lyrics to me a few years ago, and that made it amazingly funny. The lyrics is " I am a woman's man, no time to talk". Such a tough cool guy, but at the same time look so ridiculous. I understand of course that they looked good at the time, but there is some kind of universal sense of what stays beautiful over time, I think. This is not one that will stay alive.. haha! And of course it always make me think of a Norwegian commercial now.

Great songs and Great music video: Natasha Bedingfield - Unwritten

Some artists have a voice that just brings tears to my eyes because it's just so sincere and seams to come straight from their heart. Natasha Bedingfield is one of those. Even though she might be considered to pop or to commercial for a lot of the people out there, I think she just have that certain special little thing. I love quite a few of her songs and they just hit me on a very personal note somehow. This is the first one who became my favourite and can still brighten up a day when the world just seam to big and scary, I feel tied down to the same boring things and like nothing new is ever going to happen. Listening to this song makes me remember who I am and how I like to live my life. Hope it can give you some hope and brighten up your Sunday too. And what an amazingly cute video!

Great songs & Great music videos: Island in the sun - Weezer

In light of the last e-mail that was all about Christmas and Weezer it's time to celebrate the spring instead. After about 3 days of sun in all of 2009 it actually looks like sun and spring is heading this way!! I am so sick of snow, I guess this is the revenge for wishing for snow instead of brown fields for Christmas.

This is one of the most beautiful spring/summer songs there is. It makes you feel nice and safe and happy. The video is one of the most cute, sweet and videos around too. All the animal babies playing together, it's almost like a piece of heaven :) It's no wonder that it's great really, I mean, it was directed by none other than the great Spike Jonze. Great music videos: Elton John - This Train Don't Stop There Anymore

I have a kind of conflicted relationship with Elton John's music, but he has made some genius songs through the years. One of them is "This Train Don't Stop There Anymore" where he looks back on his career. The real stroke of genius was though to hire Justin Timberlake to play Elton in the video. I think this was the first time I really thought to myself "Oh, that Justin, he's gonna be huge.. Just wait for it! He's soon gonna go off on his own..". I think Justin does an amazing job and really gets the lyrics across so clear... It has brought tears to my eyes many times :) hehe

Great music videos: U2 -Sweetest Thing

This weekend is U2-weekend on WH1 in Norway and even maybe all over Europe? Anyways.. They have so so many great videos (and songs of course) but it's one that always breaks my heart and makes me shed a tear or two. It's the very very sweet song "Sweetest Thing".

The song was allegedly written by Bono as an apology to his wife Ali Hewson for forgetting her birthday during The Joshua Tree sessions. At Alison's request, proceeds from the single went to her favored charity, Chernobyl Children's Project International. In the video, directed by Kevin Godley, the phrase "I'm sorry" (and some variations) can be spotted. Cameo appearances in the video include Riverdance, Boyzone, Steve Collins, the Artane Boys Band, and the Chippendales. The Edge, Adam Clayton, Larry Mullen Jr., Norman Hewson (Bono's brother), Dik Evans (The Edge's brother), and Alison Hewson, appear in the video as well, along with Bono. More here

Bono really shows how expressive his face can be and he really has his heart on his sleeve and are not so much the usual very cool and untouchable. You can really tell how much emotion it is connected with this song and it's so so cute and so funny. I think my favorite moment might be the little dog with the white flag. A very great idea for a video for a very very cute song. I think any wife in the world would melt when she got such an apology. Enjoy! (And yes, that is his wife in the beginning)

This video is nothing less than amazing. All Travis videos are great and I love all the details in this one and how they have duplicated the band so many times. A great song for all of us that love the 90's :) All you can say is really "Hey!"... Amazing live also... I love this one. You have to be happy when you hear it :)

I love how they look so young and cute and fresh. Neil still has long hair, Fran has all his hair and rosy cheeks and Andy has glasses. Dougie on the other hand looks exactly the same and just as cool today.

Great music videos: Babyshambles - Delivery

This is one of the most sad and sexy songs at the same time ever. As I understand it's about the worlds most famous junkie, Pete Doherty's view of the life and his struggles. At the same time there is something really sexy, loving and almost happy about the riff that just makes you hum it over and over again. Maybe it's just me that think sad musicians are sexy... haha. I love the contrast between the riff in the verse that is really staccato and the refrain that is really flowing. Just a really really good song. And the video kind of captures the whole essence of it... Pete in everyday scenes in his life and I am so glad it's in black and white. I really wish that someone would help him. I think he just must be a very very sensitive boy and a beautiful soul.

Great music videos: Ok Go - Get over it and Here It goes again

Ok Go is one of the few bands that I started liking because of their music videos. I so "Get over it" and thought it was so funny. Especially the part in the middle where there is a very funny pause and how everything in the video reflects the lyrics.

"Here it goes again" is also a very funny video. An incredible idea first of all with the threadmills. If I am not mistaken I think they actually came of with the idea for that themselves. Genius.

And oh, yes... I really love their music too ;)

Great music videos: Justice - D.A.N.C.E

I really like the catchyness and elegance of French music. I am a huge fan of Phoenix and I also really like this Jusice track. The video is such a cool idea too. Blank white t-shirts with a lot of animation on them. Great stuff. Makes me groove in front of the screen and sing along.

Ah... Yes, and bit of triviata about Justice. Apparently the manager of Daft Punk used the money he earned on them to make a record label called... oh... I don't remeber... Ed... Ed something... Let me look it up.... Ah..! Ed Banger.. Headbanger in French because the H is silent in the beginning of French words. Anyways... He signed Justice to Ed Banger, so here you go :)

Great music videos: Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the heart

I saw this on tv just before I went to bed last night. It's the strangest video ever. I really like the song believe it or not because it has so many strange themes and parts. And it also gives me some childhood memories and memories from the Norwegian band Hurra Torpedo that plays the song on kitchen appliances like fridges, freezers etc. (I am saving that one for it's own post later):)

But this video is pure crazy... It has moons, fencers, wind and lots of it, chiffon, doves, american football players, tribe dancers dancing around Bonnie in circles (Eclipses?), wings, gymnasts, marshal arts dancers with wails, choirboys speeding through air and schoolboys with shining eyes (Turn around.. bright eyes). They have used every effect that they can. Including the famous "blurry-filter" that you can see on stuff from the 80's and series like "Days of Our lives" today. The video is pretty much just as over the top as the song. hehe (The last part where one of the school boys sings falsetto with bright eyes really cracks me up). There seams to be some "Bonnie-with-a-school-boy-fantazy" going on through this video, my god. hehe

Since I was doing my last post on 1920's inspired videos I remembered this one by Christina Aguilera. It also has a bit of that gangster feel and I love how the beginning sounds like it's of an really really old record. And my God... This girl can sing. She sometimes almost brings me to tears just by the intensity in her voice. Just so powerful and so on time and so under control. Here is the video.

I love the colors and the shapes and the 1920's style of this video. The song is really catchy too and makes wanna dance around and be a bad girl, maybe because of the video. Perfect match of video and song I think. Oh, and I really like have they have made the dance in the end look slightly charleston-like, like it really is from the 1920's. This video is very cool to be a country song and makes me not thin country at all and gives me a whole new side to LeAnn and makes me really love her voice. So here you go, some prison in the 1920's fun for bad girls.

This is a really crazy video. I have seen it while back on tv, and just didn't have the time to watch the whole thing, but tonight I did. The whole thing starts by interviews with three porn stars that are then featured throughout the whole video. It's to bad that this video on YouTube lack a lot of the interviews but it's the only thing I can find online. It kind of gives a glimpse into this world that one knows nothing about, how porn actors/actresses are when they don't make porn. The video is making fun of the stereotype porn situations a bit without being more dirty then a little kissing really. There might be more, since I didn't watch it really closely, so sorry if I offend someone. Sounds like a quite good band too, so I have to check them out more I think...
